The other day my dad admitted to me that he plans things all wrong. He's a gifted craftsman and likes to build things for the kids and grandkids for the holidays, but by the time he decides what he wants to do it's cold outside. His shop is in the garage, so he's stuck working in cold temperatures with an inadequate space heater, and bringing projects into the house to be glued, painted, or stained. He swears he'll start in the summer this year. We'll see.

As much as we hate to think about it, we're soon going to have to put away our holiday decorations. Have you ever noticed how well we do that? Somehow, all of us find some place to squirrel away the tinsel and bows for another year - some out-of-the-way place that doesn't interfere with our day-to-day living. But what about next year? When we pull out our decorations, will we be able to find exactly what we're looking for and remember what goes where?

With a little planning, you could.

They say that the most sensitive part of the human anatomy is the pocketbook. Indeed, the health of your wallet or purse has a large effect on your general well being, especially among the holiday shopping crowds and impatient checkout lines. Keeping your essentials organized through all the ins and outs becomes a daily task, and a blocked artery in your purse can lead to irritation and inflammation.

So how do you keep your most used items circulating while keeping everything in its place? Let's take it case by case.

The holiday season is here. If you're like me, you're wishing you had planned your gift giving earlier and put more thought into it. I can't tell you how many times I've found myself wandering the store at the last minute hoping something would jump off the shelf screaming, "This is the perfect gift for so-and-so."

Location, location, location. It's so important, you always say it three times. When it comes to running a successful home business, those three words speak volumes - you need a workstation location, a storage location, and portable support when your business takes you on location.

Video games both fascinate and frustrate me.

As a kid, I had an Atari with 5 games that my siblings and I played quite often. I'll probably never forget that square basketball or the strange sound effects those tanks made. But video games never got in my blood-my dad wanted us to play outside more, and he had a way of convincing us that his idea was worth trying. After a while, we forgot about that old gaming system.

Ah, the garage - the place to park your vehicles, your automotive home. Most of the time, however, the garage serves another purpose, usually as extra storage space for your seasonal decorations and other infrequently used items. If you keep your storage organized, however, you might just find extra room for repurposing your garage. Here are several ways to tap into the unexplored potential of your garage:

You work at home? Oh, you are so lucky. I wish I could do that. I imagine it's so invigorating to set your own hours and work in your pajamas when it's most convenient for you.

I'm guessing you get that a lot. It probably makes you want to roll your eyes and say, "If you only knew how difficult working at home can be."
